Man welcomes elderly dogs and farm animals into his home after losing his dog in a car accident
After tragically losing his dog Wolfgang to a car accident, Steve Greig decided to turn his grief into something positive. Instead of adopting young puppies, he opened his home to senior dogs and other needy farm animals.

Struggling with losing his beloved Wolfgang, Steve realized that he could only heal if something good came out of the tragedy. He visited a shelter and adopted their oldest dog, a 12-year-old Chihuahua with four bad knees and a heart murmur. He named him Eeyore, and today, at 19 years old, Eeyore is still going strong.
Steve now has nine senior dogs, a pig, a rabbit, and three chickens. Some of these animals were adopted locally in Denver, while others traveled from places as far as Florida to find theirs forever home with Steve.
Despite having a house full of animals, Steve wouldn’t change a thing. He believes that senior dogs are easier to manage because they are more laid-back and enjoy relaxing throughout the day.
Surprisingly, adopting so many animals has not only deepened Steve’s love for our four-legged friends but also helped him appreciate humans more. He believes that if he can instantly love an old, homeless dog that has been through tough times, he should be able to do the same for people in similar circumstances.
Senior pets may require a bit more care, but they are just as loving, if not more than their younger counterparts. As Steve says, “Love has no time limit. If you love something for a few months or a few years, it’s still love, and it always matters.”
Steve’s story is a beautiful reminder of the joy and love that senior pets can bring to our lives. If you’re considering adopting a pet, don’t overlook the older ones. They deserve a loving home just as much as any other animal.
